ADRIAN — The Windom/Mountain Lake Cobras won the battle, but the Class 2A, seventh-ranked Adrian Dragons won the war.
Despite winning eight weight classes Windom/Mountain Lake dropped a 33-32 dual decision at Adrian on Thursday.
The Dragons captured five pins and a decision, while limiting the Cobras to two pins and one foreit victory.
Adrian’s Jayden Bullerman pinned Hayden Frost in 57 seconds at 120 pounds. Then, the Dragons piled up three straight pins from 132 to 145 — Michael Pruess pinned Jacob Suess in 1:12, Hunter Heitkamp pinned Luis Ramirez in 39 seconds and Logan Rogers pinned Danny Kneeland in 1:09. Adrian’s final pin came at 170, where Jesse Slater pinned Gavin Mutz in 1:07.
At 220, Adam Garms secured an 8-2 decision over Aaron Flatgaard to give Adrian its final point-total.
At 160, Ben Matter handed Windom/Mountain Lake a pin during a win against Matthew Slater in 1:46. At 195, the Cobras’ Vince Johnson used 2:32 to pin Andy McCann. Neil Liftin won by forfeit at 285.
Other Windom/Mountain Lake victories came from Wyatt Stevens, a 10-3 decision against Skylar Hieronimus, at 106; Joe Fischenich, a 4-2 decision against Ryan Elias, at 113; Jared Willaby, a 3-2 decision against Tony Lynn, at 126; Andrew Larson, a 3-1 decision against Justin Elias, at 152; and Jake Junker, a 6-1 decision against Dylan Gyberg, at 182.
River Valley 23
TRACY — The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton/Westbrook-Walnut Grove Panthers wrestling team split a triangular meet against the River Valley Wildcats and the Marshall Tigers on Thursday.
T-M-B/W-WG defeated River Valley 54-23 as 106-pound wrestler Nash Meyer picked up the only pin for the Panthers.
The Panthers took eight duels by forfeit en route to the win. Logan Axford (120), Caleb Christian (126), Nou Thao (132), Anthony Koch (145), Austin Peterson (152), Brennon Cooley (160), Pietro Margato (195) and Brandon Balsavage (220) all won their matches by forfeit.
In their second dual, T-M-B/W-WG lost to Marshall 53-24. The Panthers won by pin in three matches, two by decision and one by forfeit.
Toby Selmer took down the Tigers’ Nester Perez at 106 for the Panthers’ first pin, while Austin Peterson (152) pinned Marshall’s Jarrett Louwagie in 52 seconds. Tristan Varpness had the other pin for the Panthers (182) against the Tigers’ Bradon Appel in 1:22.
Axford (120) defeated Marshall’s Nick Erbes with a 4-2 decision and Christian (126) edged Marshall’s Matt Facile 9-8. Cooley won his match by forfeit for T-M-B/W-WG.
The Panthers host BOLD on Feb. 1 in Tracy.
