Prep dance teams from Canby/Minneota, Marshall, Wabasso and Worthington performed before judges and a sizeable crowd as a meet was hosted by the Trojettes for the first time.
“It was really a lot fun,” Worthington varsity dancer Shelby Kingery said. “When it’s you’re home crowd, everyone is screaming very loud and you have your own fans there. That rush of adrenaline keeps you wanting to go further and further.”
Each team performed high kick and jazz dance routines.
The Canby/Minnesota Sensations scored a 4.5 to win the vasity competition in Class A, followed by Worthington (6.0) and the Wabasso Dazzlers (7.5). The Marshall Tigers, a Class AA team, performed, but had no competitors.
“Even though we had a couple mistakes, our girls performed really well,” Trojettes head coach Tasha Raymo said. “They had a lot of energy to perform because of the crowd.”
Raymo was excited about the amount of support the Trojettes received.
“It was amazing to see how many people came to our meet,” Raymo said. “The girls were excited to come out on the dance floor.”
In addition to Kingery, the Worthington varsity team includes Jessica Alvarez, Arleny Campello, Valeria Cano, Emily Clark, Rachel Drietz, Monica, Duron, Chittika Ektaniphong, Mary Haberman, Taylor Hastings, Selina Hua, Morgan Jensen, Brianna Kempema, Laura Koepsell, Katherine Luke, Jada Nelson, Jasmine Ober, Alejandra Pinales, Nicole Prins, Kharmen Saysirisonh and Sierra Voss.
The Trojettes tied the Canby/Minneota Sensations with an average score of 4.5 in the Class A junior varsity competition, but Worthington claimed first place because it had a 135-134 edge in points.
The Trojettes’ junior varsity team includes Ku Hay Blu, Sophia Gutierrez, Loida Hernandez, Paw Der Htoo, Alyssa Johnson, Alexis Luft, Lay Yu Paw, Diana Phrom, Peh Tha Pwe, Elizabeth Ramos, Kate Reeves, Tania Rodriguez, Ellie Schroeder, Sovina Sonthana, Thein Tun and Elena Viscara.
Wabasso did not compete at the junior varsity level, while Marshall, a Class AA school, performed without any competitors
