Special School Board Meeting Minutes - Jan. 4, 2013

SPECIAL BOARD MEETING - January 4, 2013

A special meeting of the School Board of Independent School District No. 518, Worthington, Minnesota, was held at the District Administration Office, 1117 Marine Avenue, Worthington, Minnesota on January 4, 2013 at 7:00 a.m.

The following were present: BOARD MEMBERS – Lori Dudley, Joel Lorenz, Linden Olson, Scott Rosenberg, Steve Schnieder, Brad Shaffer, Mark Shepherd Absent – None

ADMINISTRATORS – John Landgaard, David Skog

1. Motion by Member Shepherd, seconded by Member Rosenberg and unanimously passed to approve the agenda for the January 4, 2013, Special School Board meeting.

2. The following nomination was made for Chairman: Linden Olson

Motion by Member Dudley, seconded by Member Schnieder and unanimously passed that nominations cease and Linden Olson be elected as Chair for January 1, 2013, to January 1, 2014, by a vote of 7 – 0.

3. The following nomination was made for Vice-Chairman: Mark Shepherd

Motion by Member Lorenz, seconded by Member Shaffer and unanimously passed that nominations cease and Mark Shepherd be elected as Vice-Chair for January 1, 2013, to January 1, 2014, by a vote of 7 – 0.

4. The following nomination was made for Clerk: Lori Dudley

Motion by Member Schnieder, seconded by Member Shaffer and unanimously passed that nominations cease and Lori Dudley be elected as Clerk for January 1, 2013, to January 1, 2014, by a vote of 7 – 0.

5. The following nomination was made for Treasurer: Steve Schnieder

Motion by Member Shepherd, seconded by Member Shaffer and unanimously passed that nominations cease and Steve Schnieder be elected as Treasurer for January 1, 2013, to January 1, 2014, by a vote of 7 – 0.

6. Motion by Member Schnieder, seconded by Member Shepherd and unanimously passed to appoint Lisa Ahrenstorff and David Skog Deputy Clerk for January 1, 2013, to January 1, 2014; to appoint Pat Morphew and David Skog Deputy Treasurer for January 1, 2013, to January 1, 2014; and to appoint David Skog as the designated Food Service Authority for January 1, 2013, to January 1, 2014.

7. Motion by Member Schnieder, seconded by Member Dudley and unanimously passed to appoint the following board members to the Instructional Committee for January 1, 2013, to January 1, 2014.

8. Motion by Member Schaffer, seconded by Member Schnieder and unanimously passed to appoint the following board members to the Operations Committee for January 1, 2013, to January 1, 2014.

9. Motion by Member Shepherd, seconded by Member Rosenberg and unanimously passed to appoint the following Board Representatives to District 518 Committees:

10. Motion by Member Schnieder, seconded by Member Lorenz and unanimously passed to appoint the following board members to the Classified Negotiating Committee for January 1, 2013, to January 1, 2014.

11. Motion by Member Schnieder, seconded by Member Dudley and unanimously passed to appoint the following board members to the Licensed Negotiating Committee for January 1, 2013, to January 1, 2014.

12. Motion by Member Lorenz, seconded by Member Rosenberg and unanimously passed to appoint the following board members to the Compensation Committee for January 1, 2013, to January 1, 2014.

13. Motion by Member Rosenberg, seconded by Member Dudley and unanimously passed to appoint the following board members to the Meet and Confer Committee for January 1, 2013, to January 1, 2014.

14. Motion by Member Schnieder, seconded by Member Shaffer and unanimously passed to appoint the following board members to the Curriculum and Instruction Committee for January 1, 2013, to January 1, 2014.

15. Motion by Member Schnieder, seconded by Member Shepherd and unanimously passed to appoint the following board members to the Communications Committee for January 1, 2013, to January 1, 2014.

16. Motion by Member Schnieder, seconded by Member Shepherd and unanimously passed to approve a mileage reimbursement rate equal to the IRS rate per mile for the 2013 year.

17. Motion by Member Schnieder, seconded by Member Lorenz and to approve a maximum meal reimbursement rate of $40 per diem for the 2013 year.

Motion by Member Shepherd and seconded by Member Rosenberg to amend the motion by striking $40 and inserting $35. Motion passed 7-0.

Original motion as amended passed 7-0.

18. Motion by Member Rosenberg and seconded by Member Dudley and unanimously passed to approve compensation for positions of District 518 School Board for 2013 as follows:

Chairperson - $3,050

Vice Chairperson - $2,650

Clerk - $2,850

Treasurer - $2,850

Director - $2,550

Negotiations, meetings of appointed committees, special board meetings, board workshops and meetings of board members out of region - $30.00 for up to two hours; $60.00 for two to four hours; $110.00 for four to six hours; and $160.00 for more than six hours up to a full day(not including regular monthly meetings)
