YOUTH HOCKEY: Worthington Hockey Association accepts grant from SIF

WORTHINGTON — More kids interested in playing hockey will have the chance to learn the game through a grant from the Southwest Initiative Foundation.

WORTHINGTON — More kids interested in playing hockey will have the chance to learn the game through a grant from the Southwest Initiative Foundation.

The Worthington Hockey Association recently accepted a $1,000 grant from the SIF, which is a regional community foundation dedicated to advancing southwest Minnesota through leadership, relationship-building, program development and philanthropy.

The WHA plans to use the money toward its Try Hockey for Free program. All players in the MiniMites and Mites divisions, ages 4 to 8, can now play hockey for free.

“The ultimate goal of the Try Hockey for Free program is for these young players to develop a love for the game so that they will continue to play for years to come,” said Kevin Black, WHA president.

Black and WHA board member Jesse Flynn worked to make the grant possible.
