Letter: Medicare, Social Security reform also needed

Gosh, it’s nice that the US Congress is now finding a way for some 9 million undocumented people to have a pathway to citizenship. This is a topic that has languished too long, and generally it makes sense to me. It’s amazing what can happen when Republicans decide to be helpful, motivated by horrible vote percentages from the Hispanic community.
Now then, if only the Congress would think about the other 306 million citizens in the same gregarious light and end this budget stalemate. I agree with the balanced approach, which also means the Democrats have to reform Medicare and Social Security. I hate the word “entitlement” because I’ve paid into that program for 624 months — hey, it adds up.
It’s important to the rest of us because today that debt is $16.5 trillion and counting. That amounts to $146,000 per taxpayer. I mean just the interest — you catch my drift. Come on, ladies and gentlemen, how about giving the rest of us “legals” a break, too — OK?
