GIRLS BASKETBALL: Big second half propels Fulda past Russell-Tyler-Ruthton

MARSHALL — Fulda shut down Russell-Tyler-Ruthton during the second half of a 57-43 non-conference girls basketball victory Saturday at Southwest Minnesota State University.

The Knights built a 28-24 lead at halftime before the Raiders outscored R-T-R 33-15 in the final 18 minutes.

Sariah Cheadle led three Fulda players in double figures with 14 points. Brittney Hermeling added 13 more and Melissa Gehl had 11. Cheadle and Gehl grabbed nine rebounds apiece and Hermeling collected seven more.

The Raiders shot 54 percent (22 of 41) from the field and limited the Knights to 29 percent (18 of 63).

Rachel Cheadle scored nine points for Fulda, which also received five assists from Sariah Cheadle, four assists from Gehl and four steals from Laura Williams.

The Raiders (16-6) play a Red Rock Conference game at Adrian at 7:30 p.m. Tueday.

Lakeview 56, Red Rock Central 50

MARSHALL — Red Rock Central’s second-half comeback fell short during a non-conference loss to Lakeview on Saturday at Southwest Minnesota State University.

The Lakers led 31-14 at the break before the Falcons won the second half by a 36-25 count.

Lakeview (19 of 26) outscored RRC (12 of 22) by seven points at the free-throw line.

Brooke Rasmussen knocked down four 3-pointers en route to leading Red Rock Central (2-17) with 15 points. Tegan Derickson had 12 points, while Melanie Kedl finished with 11 more.

Corbyn Wee produced a game-high 17 points to lead Lakeview (8-12). Madi Nelson generated 14 more, while Sadie Stelter recorded 13.

The Falcons host Mountain Lake Area in a Red Rock Conference game at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Southwest Christian 54, Sisseton 47

BRANDON, S.D. — Southwest Christian sealed a non-conference win over Sisseton in the fourth quarter of a game played at the Sanford Pentagon Classic on Saturday at Brandon Valley High School.

The Eagles won the final 8 minutes by a 15-12 count after leading 39-35 after three quarters.

Amber Pater scored 16 points as Southwest Christian improved to 15-4 overall. Jennifer Schmidt posted 13 more and Kelly Tinklenberg collected eight rebounds.

Morgan Pagler had a game-high 20 points and added eight rebounds to lead Sisseton (4-8). Macy Toelie finished with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds.
