BOYS WRESTLING: Central Lyon/George-Little Rock set for dual team regional

ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa —Central Lyon/George-Little Rock edged Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn 182-180½ for the IHSAA Class 1A Sectional 3 Tournament team title Saturday.
The Lions, who had four weight-class champions and two runners-up, secured a spot in the IHSAA Class 1A Dual Team Regional Tournament at Emmetsburg. Central Lyon/ George-Little Rock faces ninth-ranked Emmetsburg in the semifinal round at 6 p.m. today.
The Eagles, who also advanced in the regional dual team postseason, meet 15th-ranked Manson Northwest Webster.
Wrestlers moved forward to the IHSAA Class 1A Individual District Tournament at Milford Okoboji, which will take place at 12 p.m. Saturday.
The top two teams and the top two wrestlers in each weight class from each sectional tournament advanced in the IHSAA postseason.
Treyton Virtue (26-8 at 106), Colby McIntire (31-4 at 126), Brent Klingenberg (26-8 at 152) and Ben Starr (22-4 at 220) all became champions for the Lions.
Virtue, McIntire and Klingenberg each won their matches by pinfall against Brady Jones (Okoboji, 1:01), Kaleb Vanderpool (Okoboji, 2:39) and Conner Holmes (Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn, 0:29), respectively. Starr posted a 5-0 decision to defeat Ben Phillips (Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn).
Travis Vander Streek (30-6 at 195) and Nolan Geerdes (22-11 at 285) advanced by being runners-up for Central Lyon/George-Little Rock.
Vander Streek lost a 6-2 decision to Jordan Schemmel (West Lyon), while Geerdes was pinned in 1:21 by Levi Letsche (Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn) in their title bouts.
Six more Lions placed at the sectional tournament, but did not advance. They included Andrew McCarty (14-17, third at 182), Ben Friedrichsen (15-22, fifth at 160), Alex Waagmeester (16-22, fourth at 170), Zach Fugitt (17-19, fifth at 145), Hunter Huisman (6-18, sixth at 132) and Bodie Osborn (15-18, sixth at 138).
Central Lyon/George-Little Rock and Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn topped the team standings, followed by Sibley-Ocheyedan (163½ points), Okoboji (156), West Lyon (140), Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn (108½) and West Sioux (80½).
Three Generals advanced to the district tournament. They were Cole Hieronimus (champion, 28-8 at 138), Andrew Brockshus (runner-up, 24-17 at 160) and Dylan Brockshus (runner-up, 33-11 at 182).
Hieronimus pinned Jon Mitchell (Okoboji, 1:01), Andrew Brockshus lost by pinfall to Dylan Rolfes (Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn, 3:45) and Dylan Brockshus dropped a 5-2 decision to Justin Theisen (Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn) in their title bouts.
Eight more Sibley-Ocheyedan wrestlers placed at the sectional tournament, but did not advance. They included Damon Monier (third, 17-13 at 120), Tyler Reck (third, 31-12 at 145), Chris DeNoble (third, 28-15 at 170), Houston Coleman (third, 9-14 at 285), Kyle Green (fourth, 24-18 at 126), Tyler O’Connor (fourth, 24-19 at 152), Jose Olvera (fourth, 19-17 at 195) and Nic Salinas (fourth, 17-19 at 220).
IHSAA CLASS 2A
Sectional 7 Tournament
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa —Five Sheldon/South O’Brien wrestlers advanced from the IHSAA Class 2A Sectional 7 Tournament on Saturday.
Josh Gorter (26-11 at 126), Toby Maggert (28-9 at 170) and Bryce Kelleher (35-4 at 220) all became champions for the Orabs.
Gorter pinned Alex Hash (Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley, 3:10), Maggert pinned Mitchell Sandbulte (Sioux Center, 4:26) and Kelleher preserved a 7-5 decision against Tyler Dolieslager (Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley) in their title matches.
Dustin Freeman (24-21 at 132) and Austin Rohrs (33-5 at 182) both were runners-up for Sheldon/South O’Brien.
Freeman was pinned by Austin Gregg (Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley, 4:55), while Dallas Rozeboom (Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley) defeated Rohrs by injury default in their title bouts.
The Orabs advanced to the IHSAA Class 2A Individual District Tournament at Spencer, which will take place at 12 p.m. Saturday.
Four more Sheldon/South O’Brien wrestlers placed at the sectional tournament, but did not advance. They were Bryton Kelleher (third, 28-11 at 195), Darin Greenfield (fourth, 25-18 at 160), Brian Klein (fourth, 21-21 at 152) and Jesse Meendering (fifth, 11-14 at 285).
Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley (246 points) and Spirit Lake Park (193½) were the top two schools in the team standings. They were followed by MOC-Floyd Valley (160½), Sheldon/South O’Brien (149), Sioux Center (141½) and Hull Western Christian (122).
