YOUTH HOCKEY: Squirts take third place in Marshall

MARSHALL — The Worthington Trojans squirt hockey team placed third in this past weekends’ Marshall Hockey Tournament.

MARSHALL — The Worthington Trojans squirt hockey team placed third in this past weekends’ Marshall Hockey Tournament.

Teams that participated in the tournament included: Aberdeen, S.D., Marshall, Mitchell, S.D., Morris/Benson and St. Peter/LeSueur.

In their first game, the Trojans lost 6-1 to Morris/Benson.

Carlos Garcia scored the Trojans’ lone goal with an assist going to Kip Jenson. Garcia was also Worthington’s player of the game.

The second game of the tournament for Worthington saw the Trojans dominate Mitchell, S.D., in a 12-1 win.

Worthington was led by Garcias’ four-goal performance with three of those goals being assisted by Kip Jenson.

Colby Nickel also picked up his first hat trick of the year (assisted by Traeton Holt and Garcia). Dallas Sontag scored two goals (both assisted by Jack Black).

Other goals were also scored by Black (assisted by Holt), Jensen (assisted by Holt) and Osvaldo Nunez (assisted by Krew Aljets). Jenson was named player of the game.

In the third place game, Worthington took on Aberdeen, S.D., pulling out a 5-3 win.

Jenson led the Trojans with a hat trick, while Garcia and Black each netted a goal for the Trojans. Aljets was named player of the game.

Eddie Canales was strong in goal throughout the tournament, making a number of saves that kept the momentum in Worthington’s favor.

The Trojans play New Ulm/Sleepy Eye, Fairmont and Marshall this weekend.
