Letter: Remember to scrape, salt your sidewalks

I’d like to remind people clean off their walkways completely.
Newspaper carriers now deliver where people request instead of throwing it in their yard. The least people can do is make sure that they have a safe way to put the paper where they requested it.
My fiancé is one of those carriers — he has been for three winters now — and every year he falls and gets hurt in some way because people don’t take the time to make a safe path (but then have the nerve to call in and complain because their papers are late or not in the place they want them).
We rent an apartment here in town. Even though it’s not our job to keep the pathways clear, we make sure to shovel and salt both our pathway and the large sidewalk because we don’t want to see someone else get hurt.
Remember, newspaper carriers do their jobs to make your lives more convenient — not because it pays big bucks.
