DES MOINES, Iowa — All five Daily Globe-area wrestlers are still alive after Day 1 of the IHSAA Individual State Tournament on Thursday.
In Class 1A, Sibley-Ocheyedan’s Dylan Brockshus (182) advances
Brockshus scored a 16-4 major decision against Ty Robertson (Lone Tree).
Central Lyon/George-Little Rock’s Treyton Virtue (106) and Colby McIntire (126) both lost first-round matches before winning first-round wrestleback bouts.
Virtue was pinned in 47 seconds by Dylan Muckey (Woodbury Central) in the first round before pinning Logan Johnson (APP) in 1:17 in the first wrestleback.
McIntire dropped a 16-0 technical fall to Travis Cole (HIGR) before using an 8-4 decision to defeat Zach Vance (GSD) in the first wrestleback.
Competitors are eliminated after losing twice in the double-elimination tournament.
In Class 2A, Sheldon/South O’Brien’s Bryce Kelleher won his first-round match with a pin against Dylan Nelson (ADM) in 3:25.
Toby Maggert dropped a 15-0 technical fall against Cash Wilcke (OABC), but rebounded to pin Izaak Shendenhelm (DVTR) in 3:38 in the first wrestleback.
