DES MOINES, Iowa — Two Daily Globe-area wrestlers placed during the IHSAA Individual Wrestling State Tournament on Saturday at Wells Fargo Arena.
In Class 1A, Central Lyon/George-Little Rock’s Colby McIntire (35-7) finished fourth at 126 pounds.
McIntire preserved an 11-3 major decision against Nathan Schmitz (Gilbertville Don Bosco) during the fourth wrestleback round to advance to the third-place match.
Sawyer Amling (Edgewood-Colesburg) pinned McIntire in 4 minutes, 12 seconds to capture third.
In Class 2A, Sheldon/South O’Brien’s Bryce Kelleher (39-7) dropped three matches Saturday to finish sixth at 220.
In the championship semifinals, Adam Reth (Manchester West Delaware) slipped by Kelleher with an 8-5 decision.
That sent Kelleher, a senior, to the fourth round of wrestlebacks, where he was edged in an 11-9 decision by Andy Hoyden (Decorah).
In the match for fifth place, Tyler Nguyen (Sergeant Bluff-Luton) used a 6-2 decision to defeat Kelleher.
