DES MOINES, Iowa — Minnesota West’s Greg Gainey placed sixth at the NJCAA Individual Wrestling Tournament at the Jacobson Exhibition Center on Saturday.
Gainey, who won his first three matches at 165 pounds during the national competition Friday, dropped three consecutive bouts Saturday. He completed his season at 21-10.
Ryan Zumwalt, of North Idaho, derailed Gainey in the championship semifinals with a 4-2 sudden victory.
That loss dropped Gainey into the consolation semifinals, where he fell during an 8-3 decision to Dillon Geoghegan, of Iowa Central.
Gainey moved into the match for fifth place, where Rend Lake’s Juan Stimpson bested him with a tiebreaking 5-4 decision.
