JACKSON — The Worthington High School Knowledge Bowl cohort had a strong showing Monday at the Jackson County Central Knowledge Bowl Invitational.
Out of 26 four- to five-member teams in competition (from WHS, JCC, Adrian, Windom, Pipestone, Murray County Central, Red Rock Central, Springfield and Mountain Lake), the lead WHS team of seniors Thomas Burns, Dillon Pedersen, Gordy Moore, Alex Hayenga and Nathan Landwehr finished first with a total of 58 points. Runner-up was a team from Windom, scoring 43 points.
The WHS group of Nicholas Demuth, Kyle DeBates, Levi Blanchard, Zachary Clark and Troy Feller tied for seventh place.
Two additional WHS teams tied each other for 11th place (Gage Langerud, Cameron Jenson, Kenneth Garcia and Christopher Mayorga, placing equally against Megan Blanchard, Patrick Burns, D.J. Berger, Huy Lam and Brandon Stuntebeck), while the final WHS team of Scott Schnieder, Orissa Ntibhon, Bryan Doeden and Karina Cuate snapped up the 16th slot.
Next up for the WHS Knowledge Bowlers is a match-up against WHS teachers and staff on March 7, followed by the sub-regional competition on March 12 in Marshall.
