EDGERTON — Nick Reyne scored on a driving layup with 1.3 seconds left in the game to lift the No. 11 Adrian Dragons past the No. 6 Edgerton Flying Dutchmen in the opening round of the Class A Section 3 Southern Division Boys’ Basketball tournament Thursday.
Adrian held a 36-33 lead heading into halftime, but the Dutchmen were able to outscore the Dragons 32-29 before Reyne’s last second shot.
Reyne led Adrian in scoring with 29 points to go along with five assists in the game. Taylor Recker picked up a double-double (14 points, 14 rebounds) for the Dragons, while Brady Lonneman added 11 points. Collin Kemper had four assists on the night.
Jesse Berning was the leading scorer for the Dutchmen with a team-high 22 points, while Brett Ford added 17 points, 13 rebounds and four steals. Isaac Heard had 15 points and 10 rebounds in the game to go along with nine rebounds by Austin Mertens. Jorge Lopez led the team in assists with eight and picked up four steals.
Adrian (4-21) advances to play No. 3 Red Rock Central in the section quarterfinals at 4 p.m. in Worthington. The Dutchmen finish the season with a 9-13 record overall.

Ellsworth 74, Wabasso 60
ELLSWORTH — Mitch Leuthold had a team-high 15 points for the Ellsworth Panthers in a win over the Wabasso Rabbits in the first round of the Class A Section 3 Southern Division Boys Basketball tournament Thursday.
The Panthers led by two heading into the locker room, but used a combination of strong defense and efficient shooting from behind the 3-point line to increase their lead to 14 by the end of the game.
Justin Kruse was second in scoring for the Panthers with 14 points, while Dan Kramer came up with 12 points in the game. Johnathon Kramer picked up 11 points to go along with six assists. D’Shaun Herman led the team in rebounds with 10 and Tim Nolte had five assists.
The Rabbits’ leading scorer was Scott Jenniges who had 21 points, followed by Neil Eichten with 19 points.
Ellsworth (8-18) moves on to face top-seeded Southwest Christian Saturday at 11 a.m. in the quarterfinals at Worthington High School.
