PREP BASKETBALL: MLA falls to Mankato Loyola

LAKE CRYSTAL —Janessa Peters scored a team-high 12 points for the Mountain Lake Area Wolverines in a loss to Mankato Loyola during a Class A Girls’ Basketball Section 2 Southern Division semifinal game Friday.

LAKE CRYSTAL —Janessa Peters scored a team-high 12 points for the Mountain Lake Area Wolverines in a loss to Mankato Loyola during a Class A Girls’ Basketball Section 2 Southern Division semifinal game Friday.

The Wolverines trailed by 10 at halftime but Mankato Loyola’s pressure defense forced Mountain Lake Area to turn the ball over too many times which crushed any possible comeback attempt.

Paige Brown led the team in rebounds with nine to go along with six points. Peters also had six rebounds on the night.

Aunikah Bastian led Mankato Loyola with 11 points, while Lindsey Theuninick added nine points.

The Wolverines end the season with a 12-14 record overall.

Thursday

Luverne 85, Blue Earth 71

BLUE EARTH — Matthew Arends had a team-high 21 points for the Luverne Cardinals in a win over Blue Earth during a boys’ basketball game Thursday.

The game was tied at 33 apiece heading into halftime, but Luverne outscored Blue Earth 52-28 in the second half to get the win.

Brett Heronimus was second in scoring for the Cardinals with 20 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists. Matthew Overgaard led the team in rebounds with eight while scoring 17 points as well.

Luverne faces Jackson County Central in the Class AA Section 3 Southern Division quarterfinals today at 7 p.m.
