PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Mountain Lake Area outlasts Mankato Loyola

ST. JAMES - Carter Kirk scored 18 points and nabbed 18 rebounds to lead the Mountain Lake Area Wolverines past Mankato Loyola during a Class A Boys' Basketball Section 2 Southern Division semifinal game Thursday.

Mountain Lake Area led by 16 at halftime, but Mankato Loyola came charging back in the second half using a flurry of 3-pointers to close in on the lead throughout the final frame.

The Wolverines hit the front end of a one-and-one with just second left in the half to take a one points lead. Mankato Loyola advanced the ball down the court for a last second shot, but it fell shot to give Mountain Lake Area the win.

Josiah Stoesz was second for the Wolverines in scoring with 16 points to go along with nine rebounds. Andrew Hempeck picked up 15 points and had 10 assists in the game.

Carson Seifert had a game-high 29 points for Mankato Loyola.

The Wolverines (22-5) take on No. 3 Springfield for the Southern Division championship Monday at Gustavus Adolpus College in St. Peter.
