When a pet is lost/found, always call both Animal Control at 360-7044 and Prairie Justice Center at 295-5400. Make sure you contact both numbers in case Animal Control is gone or on vacation. Also, you can alert the Veterinary Medical Center (372-2957) to let them know, as some people who find an animal and will take it there to see if it has been micro-chipped. You can call the radio local radio stations and they will gladly announce your pet.
There is an online Facebook page for lost southwest Minnesota pets. When you contact me at 376-5150, I will post your found or missing pet. If you have a photo, I can also post that. Be sure to call your friends — especially those who deal with pets (groomers/rescue/trainers/boarding) — as we often communicate with each other and will try hard to get your pet back home.
A final suggestion is to take out an ad in the Daily Globe. It offers FREE ads for found animals, and it will also put the ad in The Bulletin (the free paper) for those who do not get the Globe.
Never assume a found animal has been dumped. Often that skinny and dirty pet is lost and just wants to get home.
Also, the pound is available for pet adoption.
