In 1984 I got a pell grant to go to school to be a Restaurant Manager. Once I got out into the real working world I hated being a restaurant manager. I have done many things since then, mostly factory and warehouse work. I will admit that my pell grant was wasted. I wonder how many other pell grants are wasted? If it would have been my own money I would have been a lot less likely to waste the grant and apply myself to my chosen career harder. It is my personal experience that if you give people something they do not take care of it very well or appreciate it as much if they buy it themselves. At the very least, Education Grants need to be tied to academic achievement and good grades/class attendance.
