Sure, gunny sacks were common back then--"burlap" now. Coarse hemp loosely woven. Working at the Red Owl in the late '40's, I often had to carry a 50 lb. gunny sack of potatoes to a car--usually about closing time on a Saturday night. But for Martin Leonard, what a change from Montana's wild west to head the bank in Worthington where tellers were mostly men dressed in suits and ties, and when you did business there it was in a hushed atmosphere, almost like being in a church. No longer the case today when you can access an ATM in a drive through. Nice piece of reminiscene, Ray, as always.
