These environmentalists don't seem to understand that generation from wind and solar generators need to be backed up by other types of electrical generation. Diesel generators can be put on line very quickly but coal fired steam turbines can not. I'm not sure what kind of contract Worthinton has with their power supplier but in many cases the contracts call for small cities to supply back up power with their stand by diesel generators when there is high peak demand. That alone shows that the power grid for this area is running pretty close to peak generation capacity. 500 megawatts would have been a subtantial amount of dependable generation.
