Taxes is the only way to pay for things that the government does. Like it or not, the government has to raise revenue to pay for the things that we want and need. So of course they start with unpopular things like smoking. I dont smoke and dont like smoking. I do agree with the thought that when tobacco is all taxed out they will come after something else. They have to. It is time to shrink government, and let capitalism work. If people have a legitimate need, then it will be met by business and industry. Time to decide what government services are a need and what are a want. Eliminate special interests and service providers/administrators of government programs from clouding the debate with manipulated statistics (to save their revenue stream). Limit new taxes: TIME TO TRIM SOME PORK!!!!!!!

Bw I totally agree. coming next is the soda tax, then the milk tax , then the toilet paper tax, smokers cannot continue to foot the bill for everything, keep taxing them and the group gets smaller and smaller and pays less and less

We should be taxing everyone, not just the smokers, if we're going to tax at all. Do golfers have to pay higher taxes to golf because they might swing wrong and put their back out, thus costing insurance companies money for doctor bills? No. And don't say it's not the same thing, it is. Whenever we take a risk with our body that might compromise our health it's exactly the same. This state needs to quit punishing smokers for smoking. It's not fair.

Taxing only a certain sigment of the population based on their legal activity has become ridiculous. Pawlenty just enacted another huge state tabacoo tax. So did the Feds. All you folks celebrating this beware. When there is no one left smoking because the taxes are too high, they'll be coming after you with some other b.s. tax.
