I TOO REMEMBER DIFFERENT GROUPS PERFORMING AT THE ROOF GARDEN. WHEN THE EVERLY BROTHERS WERE THERE IN ABOUT 1961 OR 1962 THERE WAS SO MANY PEOPLE ON THE DANCE FLOOR THAT YOU COULD BARELY MOVE. PEOPLE STARTED JUMPING UP AND DOWN AND I THOUGHT THAT THE FLOOR WOULD GIVE AWAY.

Ah, the Roof Garden! What memories your story brings back, Kari. I could hardly believe we could dance to those great big-name acts back in the early 1960s. I especially remember my faves -- the Everly Bros -- on a hot summer weeknight. I don't think it was the 1966 date in the poster photo -- it was earlier. You could hear the music rocking from the Roof Garden all the way from the parking area. But when I had to get up to work the 6 a.m. shift at Fred's Cafe 66 the next morning -- no fun!

August 9th, 1966, as stated on the concert poster, with The Yardbirds would of featured both Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page, both guitar legends. Beck was either fired or left the band only a couple months later depending on who's version you choose to believe. The band broke up a few years later, with Page being the only existing member. He formed a new band with Robert Plant, John Paul Jones (John Baldwin), and John Bonham, billed under the name The New Yardbirds or The Yardbirds featuring Jimmy Page, but eventually renamed themselves Led Zeppelin. Incredible to a Pagey fan as myself to imagine him rocking the docks in Arnold's Park, Iowa on a hot summer night in 1966. Cool.
