I golf at area courses... The cost is much lower.. I'd say lower your rates to a reasonable amount and more people will come... I TRIED golfind at Prairie this summer but on 2 occassions was told I couldn't because they had a "group rental" that owned the course for the day... I counted 10 people on the course???????? No thanks!!!!

I agree with Kyle, something needs to be done to make the courses more affordable and accessible to people at different income levels. WCC is not an affordable option for many where as Prairie View is. I also agree that both would be better off if they worked together on projects. For those who think that closing the municipal course and keeping the country club is what this city needs are definitely not looking at the whole picture. Set up a marketing plan and put some of the ideas into play and see what happens.

If you want both courses to survive we need to do a total makeover on both of them. First of all both need a web sites to promote each other not having one on the city site and the other one not having one at all. Then second you need to look at factors of why it is hurting. Which we did but it is not helping out. WCC needs to lower rates and try to attract the golfer by offering deals. i know when I was college cottonwood mn would offer $8 dollars for round of golf just to a college kid compared to what Marshall CC was offering. Third maybe we hire one pro or pro and an assistant were one takes care of the Prairie and one takes care of WCC and help each other out. We need to do something people cause both are dying. GET SOME NEW BLOOD IN BOTH OF THEM.

It is interesting to me that the cost of operating our municipal golf course was never brought up in the article. Last year it cost the city (us) $140,000+ to have the course. That is roughly the same amount that was cut from us in state funding. Now the question of taxes being raised to cover the budget cuts is being raised. Why would our taxes need to be raised if we know we have a losing entity on our hands? The Answer is right there. Two 18 hole courses in a city of 10,000, we didn't need to pay a surveyor to tell us that that won't work. If the city needs to pay for a facility for its citizens to golf, is that really fair to people who don't golf?

Advertise Prairie View on the golf channel? Now I've heard it all. Why don't you just ask Tiger Woods to stop by and give lessons. Kids that want to play golf most likely already do and those that can't afford it but want to play would be given a freebee or discount anyway. How does that help the financial problems the course is facing. This is almost like the housing market when the bubble burst, something has to give. You could hit a golf ball with a sand wedge and it just might land on another course in the area there are so many. I agree it is a most beautiful course, but it's still a business.
