I think the location of the new Y is fine. It's not as if it were built out by the airport. I wonder how many children got to the old Y by foot or bicycle? I remember biking there as a youth a long time ago.

hmmmm, first of all...Congratulations YMCA! I am excited for the possibilities this presents for Worthington!! As for the issue of location... I really think some of you are so spoiled. To think that it would take more than five or ten minutes to get somehwere..... AND if some of you are so concerned about getting kids to the Y, take them yourself!

Neal Y, while I agree that having more 'pedestrian traffic' may be a pain, I can't imagine there will be a huge difference in numbers...its not like the new Y is going to draw tens of thousands every day. I feel your pain though - Mankato is terrible with foot traffic from all the college kids who just randomly cross busy streets on there way to and from classes...

Since when is a YMCA only for kids (its not) and how are the kids going to get there? The exact same way kids have been getting around town for a very long time - by bike, foot or by getting a ride. In fact, having the YMCA somewhat 'out of the way' may be good for some of the kids out there when you consider the current childhood obesity rates. Anyhow, I would imagine if safety becomes a big concern the city will put sidewalks of some kind in. That being said, its not as if the roads near the College/YMCA are heavily traveled. Also, if I remember right the College was going to offer some 'specilized' classes in conjunction with the YMCA (such as physical rehabilitation, etc) which makes the location by the College ideal. In my opinion, the benefits of a project like this far outweigh any drawbacks.

I have to agree with Dean R., the location is awfull. I thought it would be a great idea for a new "Y" but I feel it is to far for the kids to travel. More kids ridding bikes around the lake and on the grade. For most it is not that big of a deal, but when you live anywhere around the lake and take that route several times a day, all the people walking and runing side by side, people on the grade, bikes on the wrong side of the road gets to be a pain. Roller bladers on the gade seem to be the worst. But it is not all kids, most are adults.

The new YMCA is great!! It is out of the way for some, but there isn't a perfect location for everyone. I encourage everyone to stop and check it out. At least there is something new in this town that is positive.

Come on anonymous posters, when will you be happy about anything? Worthington has a beautiful new building to be proud of and kids have been walking and riding bike to the baseball fields out there for many years. Great Job Andy!

Dean R, I am sure they will use the side walk, that is right, there are no sidewalks in that part of town. Looks like more people walking in the street, I wonder how long it will be till someone gets killed because of the location of that place. What ever happened to seperation of Religion and State anyways?

Where did the Paycheck costume come from? Except for the wattle, it doesn't even look like a turkey. The colors are wrong. It resembles a hawk more than anything.
