Kathy, you're right. Not all kids who do bad things come from bad homes. And yes, peer pressure can lead kids to do some dumb things. And, you can teach all the discipline and respect you want and kids are going to do whatever they want. I'm a parent. I know. Not often I have to take my comments back, but in this case, questioning the parents ability to raise their children properly was premature.

You can ask "what's wrong with our parenting" but kids can be brought up in a good home and taught right but pressure from friends will always win out. Parents can teach but the kids make their own choices and sometimes with consequences that hopefully they will learn from.

Where did these kids think they got the right to go on to someone else's - a neighbors no less - property and take their belongings? What kind of kids are these? I'm sure their parents would say they were great kids and just made a mistake, but I'm not sure I'd believe that. These are kids that have no respect for others or their property. They think the world is theirs for the taking for no other reason than because they can or they want to. The sad thing is that our world today is full of kids just like them because they've never been taught discipline or respect. What a sad world we have become.

A better question might be what is wrong with our parenting--by the time the law system gets involved it's a little late
