Trojans boys stymie Saints, 6-3; girls split at Mankato
WORTHINGTON — Cody Reese didn’t know what to do. As he raced down the field Saturday, with the ball at his feet and only St. Peter’s goalkeeper in his path, Reese’s head flooded with thoughts. “I saw the goalie come off, so I was thinking, ‘Just chip it over his head.’ But then he stopped, and I didn’t know what to do,” said Reese, a junior forward on Worthington’s boys soccer team. “Then, I saw the corner and went for it.” Reese’s brain shut off, instinct took over, and he calmly rolled a shot past the keeper and just inside of the far post to give Worthington a one-goal lead with 1:04 remaining in the first overtime. The Trojans (4-0-1) added two scores in the second overtime en route to a 6-3 victory, extending their unbeaten streak to five games.By: Matt Huss, Worthington Daily Globe
