One-woman band: Shirley Brandt keeps feet dancing with her big-band sound

WORTHINGTON — The band that played at a recent dance for senior citizens in Worthington included two keyboards, a pocket trumpet, electric ukulele and violin. But there weren’t five — or even four — musicians present. Those instruments were all played by one woman, Shirley Brandt of Ashton, Iowa. Shirley performs at area dances and other locales as Shirley’s Big Band Sound.
