I didn't know Mr. Rickbeil well but I applied for a job at the store in 1965. Mr. Rickbeil told me he didn't have an opening at the time but he would keep my application. Meanwhile I was drafted when an opening came up. My dad told Mr. Rickbeil that I was in the Army and Mr. Rickbeil sent me a nice letter saying that when I got out he would have a job for me. I never did go to work at his store but I still have fond memories of his offer.

Hardy was one of the first bussinessmen I met when we moved to Worthington in 1963. He was a kind and generous man, respectful of all and strived to help others even after the ripe old age of 100. What a man for all to look up to and emulate. Dick, Judy and family. May God bless you all. Jim Wychor, Shoreview,MN

Dick and Judy -- So very sorry to learn of Mr. Rickbeil's passing. I can recall shopping with my mom in your stores when I was a little girl, & your dad was always so engaging & helpful. Many decades later, when your parents & my mom were both at the Meadows, he was the same cheerful & gracious person. Worthington has lost a landmark. Our thoughts will be with you. Hardy Rickbeil was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. Every time I had the opportunity to visit with him, I felt richer upon walking away. To know him was a privilege! He will be greatly missed by many, many people, of all ages.

Mr. Rickbeil came to my mother;s funeral and brought a picture that he had copied with my mother and his sister on it. I was so happy to see him and thought it was so thoughtful of him to come to the funeral and to bring the picture. It will be one of my treasures of my mothers. My condolences. It is hard to lose such a wonderful man. Mary Ann (Leary) Schuman

Dick and Family: I logged into Daily Globe just a minute ago. What a positive and gracious man! One of our sons was along on our last visit. As we walked to the car, he paused and said: "What a gentleman!" Spoken with sincerity. We will be thinking of you on Saturday. Chuck and Mary Nelson
