Featured in a “Blast-from-the-Past” on Feb. 19 of this year, were members of the 1979 Round Lake Thunderbirds, who “shocked the basketball world” on the night of Feb. 16,1979 with a dramatic 76-75 upset of Windom in the District 7 quarterfinals at Mountain Lake. Members of the T-Birds were: (L-R) Todd Schuur, Mr. Schultz, Brad Kruger, Tim Kunze, Wayne Robinson, Al Nickel, Dean Wickstrom, Jeff Doeden, Joel Nickel, Joel Doeden, Randy Pool, Rodd Freitag, Craig VonHoldt, Mike Pool, Todd Lubben, Duane Voss; front (l-r): Doug Boyer and Scott Manitz. Boyer, who will be officiating a state championship game this year, scored 34 points in that game, including the game-winning shot at the buzzer.
