Obituary: Esther StoykeEsther Alnora (Lesch) Stoyke, was born on November 19, 1917, the daughter of George and Anna (Olson) Lesch, in Fraser Township, Martin County, Mn. She was baptized on January 20, 1918 at Waverly Lutheran Church by Rev. M.K. Hartman and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith on March 29, 1931 at Trinity Evangelical Church at Trimont by Rev. H.W. Neunaber.
Esther Alnora (Lesch) Stoyke, was born on November 19, 1917, the daughter of George and Anna (Olson) Lesch, in Fraser Township, Martin County, Mn. She was baptized on January 20, 1918 at Waverly Lutheran Church by Rev. M.K. Hartman and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith on March 29, 1931 at Trinity Evangelical Church at Trimont by Rev. H.W. Neunaber. Her confirmation hymn was "Take Me and Lead Me" and her confirmation verse was "Delight thyself also in the Lord; and He shall give thee desires of thine heart." Psalm 37 verse 4. Esther went to high school in Trimont, Mn. Early in 1936, the family moved to a farm near Lakefield where she met Werner Stoyke, the young man next door. Werner and Esther were married on September 25, 1936 at her parents' home. Esther worked at Land O’ Lakes and Field's Bakery. She then began working at the Lakefield Hospital. There she found her calling and she worked as a nurse's aid for 33 years, taking care of babies in the nursery and other patients. Werner passed away on February 10, 1979 and Esther continued to work at the hospital until she retired.
Esther was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield. She read her bible every day, enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, playing cards, crocheting, baking chocolate chip cookies and cinnamon rolls.
Esther passed away Thursday morning October 23, 2008 at Sanford Medical Center in Jackson. She was 90 years, 11 months and 4 days old.
Esther is survived by her daughters Darlene (Denys) Hemen of Isle, Mn., Ellen (Vernon) Barkela of Aitkin, Mn., and Carol (Donald) Schulz of Lakefield; her son David (Robin) Stoyke of Worthington; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; a sister Millie (Ed) Bieber of Lakefield; her brothers LeRoy (Elaine) Lesch of Windom and George Lesch of Lakefield; sisters in law Jean Lesch of Heron Lake and Joann Lesch of Blue Earth, Mn. and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be Sunday October 26, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield. Rev. Jonathan Nack will officiate. Burial will be in the Lakefield Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Hansen Funeral Home in Lakefield on Saturday October 25, 2008 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and again at the church one hour prior to the service on Sunday.
