Obituary: Leo McNab
Leo McNab died on Saturday, November 15, 2008, at his residence in rural Brewster.
Leo James McNab, 72, of Brewster, MN, was born on January 25, 1936, at home in Alba Township, Jackson County, MN, the son of James and Alice (Thurston) McNab. Leo lived his whole life in Brewster, graduating from Brewster High School in 1954. After graduation, he drove truck for P.A. McNab & Sons Trucking for a few years and has farmed since graduation until he retired in 2006. Leo married Mary Anne Smith on August 23, 1958, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brewster. They recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary.
Leo was a life-long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brewster. He was baptized, confirmed, and married at Sacred Heart. Leo served as a Eucharistic Minister, usher, and as a member of the Parish Board. He was also a Charter member of the Brewster Knights of Columbus and served in various offices as well as Grand Knight. Leo was a member of the Brewster Public School Board for 21 years. He was an active member of the Brewster Community Club for many years and was a Past President.
Leo is especially proud of his children, their spouses, and grandchildren and loved spending time with them at family events. He loved his family, fishing, farming, hunting, camping, and traveling. Trips to Reed Lake in Canada with family and friends were some of his favorite times. He also could be found many winter Sunday afternoons hunting deer or rabbits. Leo died on Saturday, November 15, 2008, at his residence in rural Brewster.
Leo is survived by his wife, Mary Anne, of Brewster, MN; 8 children and 16 grandchildren, Steven and Kayla (Fiedler) McNab and Kasey and Neil, of Brewster, MN, Mary McNab, of Rochester, MN, Michael and Dr. Connie (Ferguson) McNab and Matthew and Mary Lou, of Slayton, MN, Teresa and Robert Olson and Luke and Annika, of Eau Claire, WI, David and Patricia (McCarthy) McNab and Pam, Joe, and Katie, of Waseca, MN, Kathleen and Ronald Nelson and Emily and Kristin, of Andover, MN, Kevin McNab and Dawn Paxton (fiancée) and Joshua, Brittany, Devan, and Christian, of Bellevue, WA, and LT Daniel McNab and Kristin Sweeney (fiancée), of Virginia Beach, VA, currently deployed to the Middle East with the United States Navy; two brothers, Bernard and Sandra McNab, of St. Charles, MN, and Leonard and Eileen McNab, of Battle Lake, MN; one sister, Cecelia and Wayne Nicklay, of Hastings, MN, and godchildren, Tim Rynda, Edward Smith, and Jennifer Todryk. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Cecelia Alice McNab; sister, Alice Rose Todryk, and grandson, James Roy McNab.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 21, 2008, at 10:30 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brewster, MN, with Father Andrew Olsem officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Brewster, MN.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2008, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brewster and on Friday, November 21, 2008, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brewster.
Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is coordinating the arrangements.
