Obituary: Tillie Giesen

Tillie Giesen was born on April 12, 1925 in Viola Township, Osceola County, Iowa to Hiebe and Anna Prins Rust. In 1928 the family moved to a farm near Bigelow, MN. Tillie grew up on the family farm and attended Country School District #80. Tillie worked at Farmers Produce in Worthington for a short time. On September 16, 1947 she and Clarence Giesen were married at the Immanuel Presbyterian Parsonage in Ransom Township, Nobles County, MN. Following their marriage they lived and farmed near the communities of Lismore, Rushmore, Adrian, Fulda, and Avoca. Tillie taught Sunday school at the Fulda Presbyterian Church for 12 years. In 1973 they bought a farm near Slayton in Leeds Township. Murray County, MN. They retired in 1992 but remained on the farm. Clarence passed away on December 24, 1995. Following Clarence’s death Tillie remained on the farm and passed away there on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at the age of 84. She was a member of the Chandler Reformed Church in Chandler, MN. Tillie enjoyed reading, playing cards, gardening, doing puzzles and playing the Keyboard. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her four children and their spouses, Gerald and Leann Giesen of Slayton, MN, Marcia and Duane Beers of Colorado Springs, CO, Norman and Julie Giesen of Milbank, SD, and Merlin Giesen of Slayton, MN, 15 grandchildren, Jim Peiffer, Terry Giesen, Jackie Van Ruler, Kelli (Nate) Fischer, Andy (April) Van Ruler, Heather (Scott) Tietjen, David (Mindy) Giesen, Robbie (Michelle) Giesen, Annie (Travis) Berry, Chris Giesen, Devon Giesen, Damiane Giesen, Caitlin Giesen, James (Jackie) Giesen, and Jessica (David) Voehl, 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services: Chandler Reformed Church in Chandler, MN on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Ted Kunze officiating. Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens Slayton, MN.
