Obituary: Mervin Williams
Mervin Elvis Williams, age 87, of Worthington, died Saturday, October 31, 2009 at his home in rural Worthington. He was born May 25, 1922 in Hartley, IA; to parents, Vernor and Edith (Remaley) Williams.
Mervin Elvis Williams, age 87, of Worthington, died Saturday, October 31, 2009 at his home in rural Worthington. He was born May 25, 1922 in Hartley, IA; to parents, Vernor and Edith (Remaley) Williams. He attended country school in Hartley, IA. After his schooling he moved with his family to a farm near Ocheyedan, where he met and married Veida Hinners on June 18, 1943 in Ocheyedan. They enjoyed sixty-one years of marriage.
The couple farmed in Ocheyedan, Primghar, IA and Storden, MN and then moved to Hartley, IA. In 1964 they moved to Worthington where Mervin worked briefly for Gary Roos Construction. He then went to work at Campbell Soup Company where he worked for twenty-one years and retired at sixty-two.
Mervin enjoyed gardening, his pets, grandchildren and his beloved recliner.
Mervin is survived by his two sons, Paul Williams, Worthington; and James (Shellie) Williams, Round Lake; six grandchildren, Michael Mitchell, Connie Mitchell, Justin Williams, Mervin Williams, Laura Flores and Ashley Williams; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Verla (Bennie) Gerdes, Worthington; and brother-in-law, Arlo (Shirley) Weimer, Detroit Lakes, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Veida in 2005, two sons, Larry and Lynn Williams, one sister, Alvena Weimer, and one granddaughter, Veida Jo Marie Williams.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 PM at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington. Visitation will also be Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Worthington.
The service will be Thursday at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church in Worthington with the Pastor Gordon J. Orde officiating. Burial will be Thursday at 1:30 PM at the Pleasantview Cemetery in Hartley, IA.
