Obituary: Mary Ellen Hanbury
Mary Ellen Hanbury was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota on June 24, 1943, the daughter of Victor John and Mary McNally. Mary Ellen graduated from Grand Forks Central High School.
Mary Ellen Hanbury was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota on June 24, 1943, the daughter of Victor John and Mary McNally. Mary Ellen graduated from Grand Forks Central High School. She also attended Akers Business College in Grand Forks.
She met Frank Hanbury when she was 17, and they were married at the First Baptist Church in Grand Forks on September 23, 1961. To this wonderful marriage were born two sons, Paul on March 28, 1962 and Jon on February 11, 1969. Frank and Mary Ellen moved from Grand Forks to Worthington, Minnesota, in December 1963.
In addition to raising two incredible sons, she worked at the Swanberg Agency and the Credit Records. She retired from this job in 2006. Since then, she spent all her time working on her hobbies. She loved gardening, playing cards with friends, and spending time with her two grandsons, Andrew and Nick. She was an active member of the American Lutheran Church.
Mary Ellen will always be remembered as a kind and loving spirit. She touched so many lives - family, friends, and members of her community.
On August 30, 2010, she was sent to Heaven. She is survived by her husband Frank; her sister Patti and her husband Bill; sons Paul and his wife Karen, Jon and his wife Seema; grandsons Andrew and Nicholas; close and loving friends; dog Jessie; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Victor John and Mary McNally.
The funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, 2010, at American Lutheran Church, Worthington, with Pastor Liz Radtke officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 4, 2010, in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, at Benson Funeral Home, Worthington.
