Obituary: Earl "Fred" "Napa Earl" Linder

Earl Linder was born on September 25, 1938 in Council Bluffs, IA to Earl and Leah Chapman Linder.

He moved to Worthington, MN where he grew up and attended school, graduating from Worthington High School in 1956. Earl entered the US Army in 1960 and served until his honorable discharge in 1963.

On December 20, 1962 he was united in marriage to Jackie Wahl in Worthington. Following their marriage they lived in Worthington and Earl worked for an auto dealership for 30 years in the parts department. He also had a CB Radio business for 15 years in Worthington.

Earl and Jackie purchased the NAPA Auto Parts store in Slayton in 1982, where he worked until his retirement in 2010, he also operated an awards business for 20 years.

Earl passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2011 at the Our House Hospice Home in Slayton at the age of 72. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Slayton where he served as head usher for many years.

Earl enjoyed outdoor recreation, including water sports and boating in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter. He also loved vacationing in Yellowstone National Park for 17 years. He was a member of the Frosty Riders Snowmobile Club in Worthington and Slayton Driftbreakers and spent numerous hours grooming trails. Earl also served as board member for the Murray County Racing Association for 11 years.

He had been an avid race fan since moving to Worthington and was inducted into the Murray County Speedway Hall of Fame in 2010. He also maintained the model railroad trains at End-O-Line Railroad Park in Currie for many years and was a avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan

Survivors include his wife, Jackie Linder of Slayton, MN; brother, Gary Linder and his special friend, Mary Jo of Worthington, MN; nieces, Stacy (Mark) Slettum and family of Slayton, MN and Julie (Craig) Runksmeier of Ledyard, IA; foster child Kurt (Linda) Johnson and family of Worthington, MN; two sisters-in-law, Pat (John) Remme of Worthington, MN and Florence Wahl of Mora, MN and many cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services are at First Presbyterian Church Slayton, MN on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Barbara Whipple officiating. The organist is Bonnie Poppen.

The soloist is David Poppen.

The pall-bearers are Jason Krohn, Denny Lickness, Jerry Junker, Randy Martins, Jack Sliver and Monty Larson.

Honorary pallbearers are Mylan & Terry Larson, RJ & Marlyn Ehleringer, Don & Carol Haubrich and Harv & Linda Harvey.

His cancer support group is Kay & Eddie Erickson, Nola Aanenson, Kristi Fuerstenberg, Glenn Fuerstenberg and Kaily Fuerstenberg.

Interment is at Worthington Memorial Gardens Worthington, MN.

Visitation will be Wednesday at the Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton from 4 to 7 PM and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Our community will miss Earl. He was a very kind man. When I went into Napa not knowing the name of the part, he would smile and get it. It seemed each time I ate at the Pizza Ranch they were there. It was never Earl alone, his wife was always at his side. May he rest in peace. Mary Anne Ruppert
