Armella Anderson, age 80, of Worthington, died Friday, May 27, 2011, at Sanford Regional Hospital in Worthington.
The second daughter, Armella Winter, was born to Martin and Margaret (Reining) Winter on May 21, 1931 at their farmhouse near Harris, IA. Armella’s name was given to her by her mother.
This was the name of her mother’s beloved friend Armella Storm who lived in Estherville, IA.
Her father nicknamed her Mella.
She attended country school in Allison Central, District 66, until the family moved to Worthington, MN.
Armella graduated from Worthington High School in 1950.
The fall of 1952, Armella met her future husband, Olav Anderson on a blind double date.
They were united in marriage on April 6, 1953 in Luverne, MN.
They started their life together on the family farm near Westbrook, MN.
They were blessed with two daughters, Sylvia and Sandra.
In 1958, the couple moved to Worthington where Armella cared for her aging parents and was the caretaker for their apartments.
She enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, reading, crocheting and baking her famous apple and rhubarb pies. She also looked forward to her daily chats and visit with family and good friends.
Through the years Armella and Olav enjoyed traveling together.
Whether it was to their beloved farm or across the ocean to Norway; Armella took these memories with her by photographing the times they shared together.
While away from her travels, she liked to stay active by being an avid bookkeeper of memories, participating in Garden Club, swimming at the YMCA, going to Project Club, and Wednesday night Bible Study.
After the death of her beloved husband of 57 years, she moved to The Meadows of Worthington where she spent her last days enjoying her new surroundings and caring friends.
She will always be remembered by her generous, loving, kind heart and her strong faith in the Lord.
Armella was a very loving, family-orientated person and her family meant a great deal to her.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her two daughters, Sylvia (Greg) Hasara; Lakefield, MN; and Sandra (Brad) Spartz of Worthington, MN; four grandchildren, Joseph and Matthew Hasara of Lakefield, MN; Kendall and Brett Spartz of Worthington, MN; one sister, Geneva Strolz, Roseburg, OR; and nieces and nephews.
