Obituary: Edward Berger

Nov. 18, 1935-Jan. 26, 2012 Edward John Berger, 76, was born on November 18, 1935, in Worthington, MN, the son of Gilbert and Ella (Johnson) Berger.

Edward John Berger, 76, was born on November 18, 1935, in Worthington, MN, the son of Gilbert and Ella (Johnson) Berger. He graduated from Worthington High School. Ed worked for Berger Transfer & Storage and in 1964, he began working for Armour’s in Worthington, where he worked for 20 years. He then worked for Welder’s Supply in Worthington as a truck driver until his retirement. Ed hunted his entire life and especially enjoyed hunting deer and pheasants with his boys. He also enjoyed antiquing with his wife, his Shawnee Pottery, auctions, making deals and EBay, feeding the birds and squirrels, and collecting mechanical oil pencils. Ed was a great cook and gardener. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Edward died on Thursday, January 26, 2012, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

Ed is survived by his wife, Pat of Worthington; two sons, Barry Berger of Worthington, and Mike Berger of New Brighton, MN; one daughter, Laurie (Terry) DeNeui of Rushmore, MN; six grandchildren, Alex Solem, Katherine (Adam) Johnson, Hannah (Nate) Engelkes, Brent Berger, Brady Berger and Hope DeNeui; one sister, Norah (Dale) Everding of Worthington; and two brothers, Robert (Karmel) Berger of Sioux Falls, SD, and Thomas Berger of Currie, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Merle Berger, LeRoy “Sonny” Berger, Gilbert Berger Jr., and an infant sister.

The memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, at the Benson Funeral Home Chapel in Worthington, with Pastor John Moe officiating. Ed’s grandchildren and their spouses will serve as honorary bearers. Burial of his cremains will be in the Worthington Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 30, 2012, at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
