Obituary: Daniel Garms

Daniel Leonard Garms, age 65 of Round Lake, MN passed away at his home on Monday, February 6th, 2012 surrounded by his family. Dan was born January 7th, 1947 in Worthington, MN to Gladys (Hinkeldey) Garms and Leonard Garms. Dan graduated from Sioux Valley School in 1965 and later graduated from Jackson Vocational School in 1966 as a Lineman. Dad worked at Federated Rural Electric in Jackson from July of 1966 to October 2000. In his semi-retirement Dan worked at Northern Diecast in Lake Park from 2003-2011. Dan was married to Verda (Gilmore) Garms in 1974 and had four children; Lori (Carter) Arndt of Baraboo, WI, Theresa (Mike) Ricard of Truman, MN, Jason (Erika) Garms of Maplewood, MN and Shawna (Mike) Marquardt of Baraboo, WI. Dan also had 9 grandchildren; Tylor Arndt, Jordan Arndt, McKenzie Ricard, Weston Ricard, Kensey Tierney, Hannah Garms, Grace Garms, Colin Marquardt and Shelby Marquardt. Dan was preceded in death by his mother Gladys Garms, and survived by his father Leonard Garms and siblings David (Barbara) Garms of Fairfax, VA and Lois (Ed) Hurley of Norcross, GA.

Dan was not a man of many words, but demonstrated his great love for his family (and his little dog Skippy) through his caring ways and mechanical expertise. From his gifts of oil changes to engine overhauls his love was felt deeply by all those close to him. Always quick to say thank you, Dan never expected the same in return. He was an avid collector of all things needing restoration, particularly Oliver tractors. No project was too big or too small for Dan to tackle.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 18th, 2012 at Salem Lutheran Church, 500 N Hwy, Jackson, MN. Visitation will be from 10-11:00 a.m. with a Service from 11-12:00 p.m. and reception to follow. The family requests that any memorials be given directly to the Jackson County Central FFA Program (1128 North Hwy, P.O. Box 119, Jackson, MN 56143).

Arrangements are being handled by Benson Funeral Home of Worthington, MN.
