Obituary: Darlene Malmquist

Darlene Lillian Malmquist, 89, was born on April 26, 1922, in Rushmore, MN. She was the daughter of Ross and Lillian (Kruger) Daugherty.

Darlene Lillian Malmquist, 89, was born on April 26, 1922, in Rushmore, MN. She was the daughter of Ross and Lillian (Kruger) Daugherty. Darlene married Sumner Malmquist on September 3, 1940, in Rushmore. She was a homemaker most of her life and worked part-time in the Rushmore Library. Darlene and Sumner traveled around the world and wintered in Texas until 1997. Darlene was member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Worthington and active in her circle group. She enjoyed dancing, reading, dogs, knitting and flowers, especially her geraniums. Darlene died on Thursday, March 15, 2012, at the Adrian Care Center in Adrian, MN.

Darlene is survived by three children, Gail (John) Dynes of Slayton, MN and their children, Lori (Steve) DeBates of Marshall, MN and Brad Schultz of Cook, MN, Glen (Dianna) Malmquist of Luverne, MN and their children, Shelli (Rick) Nath of Sioux Falls, SD and Tara Zewiske of Luverne, MN and Neil (Candace) Malmquist of Worthington, MN and their children, Stacy (Ward) Halverson of Ocean City, MD and Nichole Malmquist and special friend, Greg Kuebler of Mankato, MN; 12 great grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren. She is also survived by in-laws Homer (Mary Jean) Malmquist, Joan Gunther, Dorothy Malmquist, Donna Janssen, and Gail Malmquist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sumner on March 4, 2000 and a special step granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 19, 2012, at 1:00 p.m., at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Worthington, MN, with Rev. James Krapf officiating. Casket bearers will be Brad Schultz, Lori DeBates, Shelli Nath, Tara Zewiske, Nichole Malmquist and Greg Kuebler. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Rushmore, MN.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 18, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington and on Monday, March 19, 2012, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Worthington.
