Dorothy M. Ihrke, 88, of Lakefield passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the Colonial Manor in Lakefield.
Dorothy M. Ihrke, 88, of Lakefield passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the Colonial Manor in Lakefield. Funeral service will be on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 10:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield with Pastors Dean Hanson and Ben Rucker officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery - Lakefield.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5 to 7 PM at the Osterberg-Hansen Funeral Home and on Wednesday - one hour prior to the service at the Church.
Dorothy May Ihrke was born on May 1, 1923 on the family farm in Heron Lake Township, Jackson County, the daughter of William and Marie ( Brill) Pohlman. She attended District 80 country school and later attended Immanuel Parochial School. After her education she worked for various area families. She was united in marriage to Ervin Ihrke on May 5, 1946 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. After marriage, she had worked at the Land O' Lakes egg plant as a candler for several years before she became a cook's aide at Colonial Manor. After her retirement, she continued to work as a volunteer at Colonial Manor. She recently became a resident of Colonial Manor. She passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the age of 88 years, 10 months and 30 days.
Dorothy was a life long member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she was baptized, confirmed and married. She had been a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Immanuel Ladies Aid, where she enjoyed quilting in the winter months. She volunteered at various functions within the Church and the Parochial School. She was a member of the Ambulance Auxiliary, where she once had been the Director. She was also the director of the volunteers at Colonial Manor for many years after her retirement.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 65 years, Ervin Ihrke of Lakefield, 2 sons, Arnold (Nancy) Ihrke of Round Lake, MN and Clyde (Cheryl) Ihrke of Spirit Lake, IA; 5 daughters, Lois (Pastor Dean Hanson) of Pleasanton, NE, Ruth (Ed Roth) of Lino Lakes, MN, Carol ( John Hatten) of Odessa, TX, Janet (Bert Sudenga) of Alpha, MN, Delores Brigger of Lincoln, NE; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Norman Pohlman of Sioux Valley, MN.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, LeRoy Pohlman, a son-in-law Mark Brigger, and a granddaughter Rebecca Ihrke.
