Obituary: Arlene Hintze
Arlene Hintze passed away April 12, 2012, at Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, Minnesota at the age of 90 years, two months, and seven days.
Arlene Ruby Hintze was born on the family farm near Melvin, Iowa, the daughter of Seivert and May Bertha (Shut) Raveling on February 5, 1922. She attended school at Lake Park, Iowa. On September 14, 1938 she was united in marriage to Lloyd Hintze in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. After their marriage they moved to Sioux Valley, Minnesota and began farming. Arlene loved to help Lloyd around the farm, doing anything that needed to be done, from tending to the garden to picking rocks. For a brief time in the 1950's Lloyd and Arlene ran the Log Cabin Steakhouse in Sioux Valley, before returning to their love of farming. Around 1964 they began traveling to Florida for the winters. They continued to travel there every winter for the next 30 some years. They then made Las Vegas their winter home for many years. They loved to travel together, seeing almost every state. On April 12, 2012 Arlene passed away at Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, Minnesota at the age of 90 years, two months, and seven days.
Arlene was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux Valley; she was a past member of the ladies aide. She enjoyed fishing with Lloyd; they began their fishing trips many years ago with trips to Northern Minnesota. Since then they have fished many places with their fishing buddies and lifelong friends, Mel and Sis Reimers, including the Missouri River, Oregon River and the Oregon Coast for Tuna, and Florida. Arlene had quite the green thumb, wither it be with flowers or vegetables, she could make them grow, and she loved to share her crop with friends and family. She enjoyed playing BINGO and taking bus trips to the casinos. Arlene and Lloyd would have many fireworks celebrations on their farm after their long trips, which the grandchildren really enjoyed. She will be remembered for her amazing ability to cook a delicious meal. Even though Arlene went through many surgeries in her early years to help fix her legs, she was a very strong willed woman and never let her disability handicap her abilities. Her family members admired her for that.
Arlene is survived by her husband of 73 years, Lloyd of Worthington, daughter Carolyn (Carroll) Freking of Round Lake, daughter-in-law Judy Hintze of Windom, six grandchildren, Christy (Steve) Funk, Susan (Bernie) Hotovec, Bradley (Meg) Freking, Paul (Jody) Hintze, Linette Freking, and Bryce (Trissi) Hintze, and 16 great-grandchildren, Patrick and Taylor Funk, Cody and Ashlyn Uithoven, Benjamin, William, and Thomas Freking, Dawson and Grace Iverson, Henry and Hattie Hintze, Dalton and Julia Dykstra, Kade Leu, and Garret and Gavin Hintze. She is also survived by her sister Lena Roelofsen of Toronto, South Dakota, brother-in-law Russell Sebby of Milford, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.
Arlene is preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, a son Leonard "Sonny" Hintze, sisters Ravina (Lester) Hintze, Marie (Albert) Schuette, and Phyllis Sebby, and a brother-in-law John Roelofsen.

Arlene R. Hintze, 90, of Lakefield passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington. Funeral service will be on Monday, April 16, 2012 at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux Valley Township with Rev. Gerald Gauthier III officiating. Burial will be in Sioux Valley Cemetery Sioux Valley Township, Jackson County.
Visitation will be on Sunday evening from 5 PM until 7PM at the Osterberg-Hansen Funeral Home in Lakefield, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the Church.
