Marian Louise Hallstrom, 91, was born on March 23, 1921, on the family farm in Indian Lake Township. She was the daughter of Carl and Nina (Hobert) Nelson. Marian married Harold Hallstrom on June 17, 1943, in Blue Earth, MN, while he was home on an army furlough.
At age 11, she moved with her family to a farm home in Hersey Township near Brewster. Marian lived there a few years before moving to Windom, MN, where she graduated in 1939. Marian continued her education at Worthington Junior College and Mankato Teachers College, where she received her Elementary School Standard Certificate. She taught rural school in Faribault County in 1942 and 1943. In 1944, she joined her husband in Tampa, FL, where he was stationed at the US Air Base at McDill Field, Tampa.
In 1946 and 1947, they farmed with Harold’s brother, Arvid, on the family farm in Bigelow Township. In 1948, they purchased the current family farm in Indian Lake Township and remained there after retirement. Marian and Harold enjoyed working outside together including gardening and maintained a well kept lawn. They also enjoyed fishing in nearby Lake Ocheda and going on bus tours.
Marian was a member of First Lutheran Church in Worthington. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, was active in the Ruth circle and enjoyed quilting for Lutheran World Relief. She was also a member of the Round Lake Legion Auxiliary. Marian died on Monday, April 16, 2012, in Sioux Falls, SD, after a brief illness.
Marian is survived by one son, Dallas (Deanna) of Mankato, MN; two daughters, Rhoda (Al) Lange of Rock Rapids, IA, and Abby (Mike) Hanson of Sioux Falls, SD; seven grandchildren, Todd (Shana) Venenga of Las Vegas, NV, Brent (Kristie) Venenga of Harrisburg, SD, Ryan (Dawn) Hallstrom of Kasson, MN, Rachel (Jason) Worwa of Cottage Grove, MN, Devon (Stephanie) Johnson, Cole Hanson, and Triston Hanson of Sioux Falls, SD; two great granddaughters, and four great grandsons. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one son-in-law, Don Venenga; infant grandson, Cameron, and one brother, Charles Nelson.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, April 20, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., at the First Lutheran Church in Worthington, MN, with Rev. Richard Ricker officiating. Private family burial will be in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to First Lutheran Church in Worthington.
Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
