Obituary: Maynard Miller

Maynard LeRoy Miller, 77, was born on October 31, 1934 in Lowville Township, Murray County, MN.

Maynard LeRoy Miller, 77, was born on October 31, 1934 in Lowville Township, Murray County, MN. He was the son of Louis and Mildred (Jacobson) Miller. Maynard married Marlene Hinz on August 28, 1954 in Lake Benton. He was an active member of the Lake Wilson United Methodist Church and currently the First United Methodist Church, serving many years on various committees, was a youth leader for 10 years, taught Sunday school for 15 years and volunteered on a mission trip to Zaire, Africa for 6 weeks. He served as Conference President of the United Methodist Men for many years. He was also a 4-H leader, greeter at Prairie Elementary School, Salvation Army Bell Ringer, member of the Noon and Golden K Kiwanis, involved in the Big Brother/Big Sister program, Exchange Student Program and was a foster parent. He enjoyed traveling and adored his grandchildren. Family was very important to him. Maynard died on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at the Sanford Hospice in Luverne, MN.

Maynard is survived by his wife, Marlene of Worthington; his children, Rev. Kathleen (Charles) Brandt of Windom, and their children, Paul and Andrew, Coleen (Khanh) Bui of Worthington, and their children, Anthony and Angela and Michael (Jean) Miller of Sioux Falls, S.D. and their children, Dominick, Beth and Allison and great grandchildren, Hailey, Ameriah, Brandon and Chloe; foster son, Rick (Vonda) Danneman of Leota, and their children, Kyle, Kayla and Ashley; two brothers, Marlin (Ellen) Miller of New Ulm, and Lewis Miller Jr. (Linda Boraas) of Slayton; two sisters, Louise (Bob) VanLeeuwe of Marshall, and Grace (Douglas) Hart of Chandler; mother-in-law, Florence Hinz; brothers-in-law, Ray Hinz and Marge Moll and Roy (Judy) Hinz and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Mildred Miller; father-in-law, Henry Hinz and brothers, Allan and Jerry.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Worthington, with Rev. Gordon J. Orde officiating. Casket bearers will be Donald Miller, Richard Miller, David Nielsen, Jerry Miller, Todd Miller and Troy Hart. Honorary bearers will be Maynard’s godchildren, Daniel Miller, Joe Miller and Jason Miller. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Lake Wilson.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 20, 2012, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, and on Saturday, April 21, 2012, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Worthington.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
