Obituary: Ronald Whisney

Ronald J. Whisney, 54, of Jackson passed away at the Sanford Jackson Hospital on Monday, April 23, 2012. Memorial service will be on Friday, April 27, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Jackson with Pastors Lance Isaacson and Bryan Simmons officiating.

Ronald J. Whisney, 54, of Jackson passed away at the Sanford Jackson Hospital on Monday, April 23, 2012. Memorial service will be on Friday, April 27, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Jackson with Pastors Lance Isaacson and Bryan Simmons officiating. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery immediately following the service.

Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Thursday and also one hour prior to the service today, all at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

Ronald Joe Whisney was born on October 24, 1957, in Jackson, Minnesota, the son of Joe and Lilly (Rosenberg) Whisney. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1976. As a Jackson Bluejay he played football, wrestled and was in track. Ron was Homecoming King in 1975. He continued his education at Worthington Junior College where he also played football and wrestled. He then transferred to Southwest State in Marshall, MN where he played football. After college he returned to the family farm in rural Jackson where he farmed with his father and brother. Ronald passed away at the Sanford Jackson Hospital on Monday, April 23, 2012 at the age of 54 years, 5 months and 30 days.

Ronald was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed. He was a member of the Enterprise Earners 4-H Club and Jackson FFA chapter. He enjoyed gardening and raising poultry. As a 4-H member he won several trips to the state fair showing poultry. The MN State Fair became a tradition as the family vacation every year while he and his siblings were in 4-H and Ron continued the tradition of attending the state fair almost every year since those early days in 4-H. Ron loved sports. He enjoyed watching all sports, and attending sporting events. Over the years, Ron attended several MN Vikings football games and went to the MN State High School football and wrestling championships for many years. He participated in a bowling league in Jackson for several years and loved to play pool, even going to the Nationals in Las Vegas and Reno a few times. Ron enjoyed gambling and playing black jack at several Minnesota and Iowa casinos.

Ronald is survived by his son, Joshua Ness of Everly, Iowa, his father, Joe Whisney of Jackson, a sister, Darlene (Jerome) Mages of North Branch, Minnesota, a sister-in-law, Anita Whisney of Alpha, three nieces, Laura Whisney of Minneapolis, Erica Whisney of New Haven, Connecticut, Ashley Mages, a nephew, Charles Mages, a great-niece, Elanor Mages all of North Branch, MN and several cousins and aunts. Ron was also survived by several “gambling buddies” too numerous to mention, but you know who you are.

Ronald was preceded in death by his grandparents, his mother, Lilly and his brother, Dennis.
