Obituary: E. Vernette Towne

E. Vernette Towne, age 89, of Worthington, formerly of Hampton, Virginia, passed away on May 24th at her home in Worthington, Minnesota.

E. Vernette Towne, age 89, of Worthington, formerly of Hampton, Virginia, passed away on May 24th at her home in Worthington, Minnesota. She and her husband moved to Worthington in 1991 when he retired. They spent 20 years in the Air Force, moving all over the country and to Germany and Japan. Their last assignment was at Langley AFB in Hampton, Virginia where they stayed until he retired from New York Life Insurance Company after working 23 years.

Vernette was born to Ernest and Esther (Linder) Johnson in Garvin, Minnesota, on September 7, 1922, the oldest of four children. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, her brother Wallace, and her husband, Harvey Earl Towne, Major (retired USAF). She is survived by her two sons, Keith (Linda) Towne, Worthington, and William Towne, Vancouver, Washington, two grandchildren, Brian Towne, Minneapolis, Jennifer (Douglas) Brands, Worthington, and three great-grandsons, Kalen and Charles Brands, and Henry Towne, a sister, Betty (Clayton) Trudeau, Springfield, MN; and a brother, Lyle (Shirley) Johnson, Minneapolis, MN; numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Her greatest love in life was gardening. She could make anything grow. She was a member of the Worthington Garden Club after she and her husband retired to Worthington from Hampton, Virginia. She worked as a beautician before settling down to raise a family.

Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 am Monday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington. The Memorial Service will be Monday at 11 am at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington with Pastor Richard Ricker officiating. Burial will be at Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
