Obituary: Sue Caauwe

Sue Carol Caauwe, age 69, of Sanborn, IA, passed away on July 13, 2012 at Prairie View Manor in Sanborn, IA.

Sue Carol Caauwe, age 69, of Sanborn, IA, passed away on July 13, 2012 at Prairie View Manor in Sanborn, IA. Sue lost her battle with a 4th different type of cancer after fighting this most recent cancer for a year and a month.

Sue was born on September 24, 1942 in Springfield, IL, to. F. Orlin and Dorothy (Wall) Jacobs. Sue grew up in and around Springfield. She was welcomed home by an older sister, Arlene. Sue is a twin and her twin, Sandra was born first. The twins were very close and dressed alike until they were 16. James (Jim) was born after the twins. Sue graduated from Springfield High School in 1960. Upon graduation she worked at Aetna Insurance and then for the State of Illinois.

Sue married Donald Lee Caauwe on March 21, 1965 (47 years) and moved to Sanborn, IA. Don and Sue lived on a farm they rented, just west of Sanborn for the first years of their marriage. They then moved to a farm just north and west of Sanborn which they owned and lived at until Sue became ill with this last cancer.

Sue was a stay-at-home farm wife and mom for the beginning of their marriage until the farm crisis hit, then she began to work for Pamida for many years in Sheldon, IA. She then worked at Village Northwest Unlimited in Sheldon caring for those with disabilities. Sue worked at the Village and retired just three years ago when fighting her 3rd cancer.

Sue and Don were very involved with church activities and leading youth groups at the Church of Christ in Sheldon. Sue taught Sunday School, directed Vacation Bible Schools and was the Sunday School Superintendent for many years. Later in their lives they became members and were a part of the Worthington Christian Church. Sue was baptized into Christ when she was 11 at a Spring Revival on Good Friday in 1953, along with her twin sister, Sandy.

Sue is survived by her husband, Don of Sanborn, IA; daughter, Lorie (Doug) White of Ocheyedan, IA; son, Timothy Caauwe of Ashton, IA; grandchildren, Ashley, Jordan, Benjamin and Faith White of Ocheyedan, IA; sisters, Arlene Allwardt of Watertown, SD and Sandra Carter of Athens, IL; brother, James (Marinoka) Jacobs of Pana, IL; sister-in-law, Delores (Norman) Hafley of Bloomington, MN and three nephews and seven nieces. She was preceded in death by her father and mother and two brothers-in-law.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., at the Worthington Christian Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Ron Ahlgren officiating. Burial will be in the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, IA.

Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Friday, July 20, 2012 at the Worthington Christian Church.

Arrangements are with Benson Funeral Home, Worthington, MN.
