William George Miller, 86, formerly of Worthington, Minnesota, died Thursday, July 19, 2012, at his home in rural Tenstrike, Minnesota.

William George Miller, 86, formerly of Worthington, Minnesota, died Thursday, July 19, 2012, at his home in rural Tenstrike, Minnesota. William was born June 8, 1926, to George and Dagny (Clausen) Miller in Worthington, Minnesota. He lived on the family farm near Brewster until the family purchased the Hollywood Cabins near Lake Okabena in Worthington in the early 1930s. William attended Worthington High School until enlisting in the Army, where he was stationed in Korea and later in Iceland. He was discharged in 1954. William married Helen Margaret Vance in Worthington on September 25, 1952, while on leave. The couple raised two children, Paul Robert and Vance William. William worked for more than 30 years as Circulation Manager of the Worthington Daily Globe, and lived in Worthington until he and Helen moved to Osceola, Wisconsin, in 2000. In 2004, they moved to a home on Gull Lake near Tenstrike, Minnesota. Helen moved to the Grand Village care center in Grand Rapids in 2006 due to declining health, and William and son Vance moved to Grand Rapids until Helen’s passing in 2009, whereupon father and son returned to Gull Lake. William was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for nearly 50 years, serving variously as usher, deacon, elder and choir member, and of American Legion Calvin Knuth Post 5. He enjoyed bird watching and bird feeding as well as hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities.
William was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife of 57 years, Helen. He is survived by his brother, Duane Frederick Miller of Hawthorne, California; and by his sons, Vance of Epping, North Dakota, and Paul (Mary) Maiden Müller of Luck, Wisconsin; and grandchildren, David Thomas Maiden Müller of New London, Connecticut, and Mary Faye and Geoffrey Allen Maiden Müller of Luck.
Interment will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 27, 2012, in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery outside of Worthington, with a memorial service following at 11 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 230 Clary Street, Worthington, with Pastor Jim Krapf officiating.
Memorials may be made to Disabled Veterans of America, the National Wildlife Federation, or the charity of one’s choice.
