Obituary: Beverly Weiland

Beverly L. Weiland, 55, of Decatur, NE died unexpectedly on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at her residence.

Beverly L. Weiland, 55, of Decatur, NE died unexpectedly on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at her residence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, August 6, 2012 at First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, NE with Pastor Jer Gilbreath officiating.Burial will be 5:30 p.m. Monday at Blue Hill Cemetery in Blue Hill, Nebraska.The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Root Funeral Home (formerly Pearson Chapel) in Onawa. Beverly Louise (Toepfer) Weiland was born in Hastings, Nebraska to Edwin and Ruth (Baker) Toepfer on January 26, 1957.She spent her childhood growing up on a farm near Blue Hill, Nebraska.Beverly graduated from Blue Hill Community School and Kearney State College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Education.Her first teaching experience was at Bushnell Public School where she met her future husband, George Patrick Weiland.When the school closed, she accepted a position at Anselmo-Merna Public School. She finally found the perfect place where she could make a difference in the lives of students at Omaha Nation Public School in Macy, NE.

Beverly was a very active member of First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City where she was a Sunday school superintendent and teacher and active in the Lydia Circle.She was an active 4-H leader in Burt County.Beverly enjoyed crafting, scrapbooking, and photography – you never saw her without a camera in her hand.Her greatest joy was being with her family.

Beverly is survived by her loving husband, George; a daughter, Ruth Elaine; and a son, William Russell. Other survivors are her sisters: Kayrn Laudenklos and Duane of Monroe, NE, Joanne Peper of Hastings, NE, Shelley Moles and Jack of Cook, NE and Rhonda Wickman of Omaha, NE; brother-in-law, Merle Osgood of Hastings, NE; parents-in-law, George and Delores Weiland of Worthington, MN; brother-in-law, Mike Weiland and Gynelle of Sioux Falls, SD; sister-in-law, Lenai Engler and Steven of Worthington, MN; three aunts; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Ruth Toepfer; her grandparents; and a sister, Bonnie Osgood.

Memorials may be directed to: Quilting Group at First Lutheran Church, Burt County 4-H Foundation or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
