Obituary: Frank Vogel

Frank Vogel passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at the Lakes Regional Health Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa.

Frank Vogel was born April 26, 1919, at home, near Sibley, Iowa. He was the son of John and Anna (Runia) Vogel. He lived his youth on a farm near Bigelow, Minnesota. He attended a country school for one year west of Sibley and the rest at country school near Bigelow.

He was united in marriage to Tena Dykstra of Bigelow, Minnesota on January 28, 1941, at Tena’s parents’ home south of Bigelow. They lived one year by Bigelow and then moved east of Ocheyedan, Iowa, where they farmed for 51 years, before moving into Ocheyedan. Frank retired from farming in 1995. Frank also worked as a handyman for people, doing carpentry work, etc. In their late 50s, Frank and Tena received their GED from attending night classes. They enjoyed traveling to Duluth, Minnesota to visit their daughter and Texas and Branson, Missouri for vacations. Tena passed away on March 11, 2012.

Frank was member of Ocheyedan Christian Reformed Church where he served as deacon and was a board member of Ocheyedan Christian Grade School. Frank and Tena attended Friendship Couples Bible Study. Frank will be remembered as a quiet person with a strong personality who was confident in his Christian faith and life.

He passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at the Lakes Regional Health Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa.

Those left to cherish his memories are his children, Arlynn and Elaine Vogel of Sioux Falls, SD, Marwin and Twyla Vogel of Sheldon, IA, Mary and Arnold Braaksma of Allendorf, IA, Gladys and Bill Kunze of Duluth, MN, Muriel Vogel of Sibley, IA; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Alfred Vogel of Sheldon, IA, and Cornelius Vogel of Grand Rapids, MI. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tena; his parents; one son, Dennis Vogel; one granddaughter, Julie Vogel; one brother, Peter and wife Ellen Vogel; sisters-in-law, Etta Vogel and Rayda Vogel.

The memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at Christian Reformed Church, Ocheyedan, with the Rev. Bill Van Der Heide officiating. Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Holman Township Cemetery, Sibley.
