Boyd Arthur Wood was born August 16, 1911, at Wilder, MN. He was the youngest of five children born to Eugene and Etha (Peter) Wood. He attended a country school through 7th grade, and then finished the last five years in Heron Lake, graduating in 1929. Following graduation, he spent several years working with horse-drawn equipment building roads. On June 18, 1933, Boyd was united in marriage to Nadyne Runkle in Lakefield, Minnesota. They made their home with Boyd’s parents on a farm south of Heron Lake. After his parents moved into town, Boyd and Nadyne continued to farm until 1965, when the farm was sold. They moved into Heron Lake and Boyd worked at Toro Manufacturing in Windom from 1967-1973, when he retired. Boyd and Nadyne moved to the Meadows in Worthington in January of 2005. After Nadyne’s death in 2006, Boyd continued to live there until his death on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at the age of 101 years, two months, and 30 days.
At the age of 101, Boyd still loved to read, visit with people, and was always ready for a game of cards.
Born to the union of Boyd and Nadyne were five children, Stanley (Karen) Wood of Mesa, AZ, Loreen, who died in infancy, Judith (Cliff) Gravenhof of Worthington, MN, Brenda (Larry) Watson of Hutchinson, MN, and Patricia (Roger) Grimmius of Worthington, MN. Boyd was also treasured by 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren.
Blessed be the memory of Boyd Arthur Wood.
